YOM HASHOAH
Yom HaShoah will be observed on Sunday, April 11, 2010. Our shul’s program will be held that evening at 7:30PM. As is our custom, this year we will also once again read from our Sefer Ha’Zikaron (Book of Remembrance) which lists the Kedoshim of our member families. If you would like to read your list of names or have them read by someone else, please contact the shul office as soon as you can. If you have not yet had the opportunity to submit your list of names, please submit them to Shoshana Agus so that they may be read aloud at the beginning of the program. YOM HASHOAH VIGIL AT THE IRANIAN MISSION
On Sunday, April 11th, 10:30AM, in front of the Iranian Mission (on the corner of 3rd Avenue and East 40th Street), there will be a Yom Hashoah vigil to publicly commemorate the six million kedoshim who perished in the Holocaust. The purpose of the vigil is to remind the public and our elected representatives of the imminent danger posed by Iran’s anti-semitic rhetoric and nuclear program to Israel and the world community. It is urgent that you participate! Buses will be available to provide transportation to and from the event. Buses will leave the Young Israel at approximately 9:45AM. If you need transportation and or would like to sponsor this event, please notify the shul office, 829-6040. A big yasher koach to Lynne and Nessim Tammam for organizing this important vigil.
 
SUICIDE IN JUDAISM
Project Identity presents “SUICIDE IN JUDAISM”, a lecture given by Rabbi Shmuel Ismach this Sunday, April 11th. Through the traditional sources, this class will discuss the phenomenon of suicide and its history in Jewish culture and law. We will deal with the stories of Masada and of the crusades and the contemporary issues of physician assisted suicide and suicide for martyrdom. We will also describe the Jewish legal approach and its sensitivity to suicide resulting from mental illness. Breakfast at 9:30AM - Lecture at 10:00AM - Cost $5.00
 
FAMILY LUNCHEON IN MEMORY OF SHARON SOKOL HEISLER Z.L.
The Great Neck Synagogue Annual Family Luncheon in memory of Sharon Sokol Heisler z.l. will take place Saturday, April 17th at the GNS. The guest speaker will be Mort Klein, President of the Zionist Organization of America. His topic will be “Lessons of the Holocaust Applied to Today’s Arab War Against Israel”. Contact the GNS office, 487-6100, to make a reservation. The cost is $55 per person. A special children’s luncheon will take place at the same time.
 
YESHIVA HAR TORAH’S TWENTY-FIRST ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER
A dinner celebrating the 62nd year of Israel's independence will take place on Sunday, April 18th (The Eve of Yom Ha'atzmaut) at 6:30pm at Temple Hillel in North Woodmere.  Among this year’s honorees is our own Debbie Spilky (Aishet Chayil).  Those wishing to make a reservation and contribute to the school’s scholarship funds, please call Mr. Ed Fox, Executive Director at (718) 343-2533 ext 2411.
 
NORTH SHORE HEBREW ACADEMY MIDDLE SCHOOL WALK-A-THON BENEFITING SHAARE ZEDEK MEDICAL CENTER
Join the North Shore Hebrew Academy Middle School Walk-a-thon to benefit Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem on Sunday, May 2nd, from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon! This wonderful event will help support the new Matloff Disaster and Emergency Response Center, which will be one of theadvanced facilities in the world in disaster and emergency relief care. Please sponsor a student or donate to help purchase a Patient Stretcher for this Emergency Center. The Walk-a-thon will begin and end at the NSHA Middle school and is sponsored by the North Shore Chesed Club. YOUTH

NEW YORK NCSY FOURTH ANNUAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 
Will take place on April 18th at Lawrence High School, followed by a FREE community BBQ. Prior to the championship game there will be a drawing for the NCSY raffle for 2 round trip tickets to Israel. Tickets are $20 and 10 for $180. The proceeds from the raffle and tournament are used to send teens from unaffiliated backgrounds to study in Israel for the year. Last year 18 teens were sent. This year we have over 20 who are waiting for our help. If you would like to purchase raffle tickets or take advantage of the limited sponsorships remaining, please contact Miriam Shapiro at  miriam.shira@gmail.com, or 917 442 3932.
