Welcome to YIGN!
The Young Israel of Great Neck was founded in 1974 as an affiliate of the National Council of Young Israel which has branches throughout the United States and Israel. The Congregation consists of approximately 250 families and prides itself on the atmosphere of warmth and closeness which pervades the membership. There are multiple minyanim and classes each day of the week servicing our members and the broader Jewish community.

YIGN's Parsha Pundits - Parshat Terumah
By Avi Goldberg

This week’s parsha begins with the first building campaign in Jewish history. Hashem instructs Moshe to tell all of B’nei Yisrael to “take for me T’rumah”, ie, to donate toward the construction of the Mishkan.  The commentaries take note of the pasuk using the word V’yikchu-they shall take, as opposed to the seemingly more appropriate V’yitnu-they shall give.  After all, B’nei Yisrael were giving the T’rumah to the Temple, not taking anything for themselves.

Recipes: "from our table to yours"

Squash and Pepper Bake (see more)
Ellen Tuchinsky - May 14, 2009

2-3 lbs. butternut squash in cubes
2 red peppers cut into two inch pieces
1 large red onion cut into quarters and separated into pieces
3 zucchinis cut into 1/2" thick slices
2 sweet potatoes
2 Yukon gold potatoes

Olive oil - Pam spray
basil
thyme
rosemary

Place vegetables on parchment paper on a jelly roll pan (you'll need two pans).  Spray with olive oil (or Pam). Sprinkle rosemary, thyme and basil liberally on top of the vegetables. Bake at 400 for about an hour turning frequently so they brown all over. (For a recipe that's lower in calories you can eliminate the potatoes.)

Speech by Julie Genachowski
By Rabbi Lerner

The attached speech was given by Julie Genachowski  at Aushwitz recently.  He is currently the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and headed the US delegation.  Julie grew up in our shul and his parents, Azriel and Adele are from the earliest members and remain very active in our midst.

Mike B. and I thought it would be nice if the membership had the opportunity to read Julie's very moving and important remarks.
